Chief Information Officers (CIO’s) typically manage a balance between business leadership and IT management. They lead and direct in-house IT personnel, procure new IT equipment, formulate ICT strategies and policies, and document efficient tech implementation.
CIOs must possess various skill sets to manage the various demands of IT services, as these involve understanding both digital and non-digital infrastructure. They must be knowledgeable about cloud migration and the Internet of Things (IoT) to big data and cyber security. Their roles encompass developing policies, budgeting, planning, resourcing and training. In addition, they should have excellent organizational skills as personal aptitude in business and IT management is essential.
