Social engineering is defined as an attack that uses psychological manipulation, but why is it so successful? Social engineering works because life can be stressful. We are often busy, tired, and distracted. Social engineers see a crowded mental calendar as an opportunity. Their hope is to catch the right person, at the right time, with the right story that will circumvent logical reasoning. When that happens, mistakes are easy to make.
