On August 8th, Google suffered an outage that affected Gmail and Google Drive customers worldwide. When customers attempted to access their Google accounts, they were greeted with a message stating, ”Oops, something went wrong,” or could not hit send. At this point, Google is not claiming any cyber threat to its customers regarding this outage. Instead, Google reported, “The root cause was a latent misconfiguration of our lock-service infrastructure that impacted a critical storage layer during a high-load scenario.” Google has provided a full report on the Google Workspace Status Dashboard.
