Employers Must Use New Form I-9

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced that effective November 1, 2023, all employers must use the most recent version of Form I-9. The current Employment Eligibility Verification Form I-9  has an edition date of August 1, 2023. All previous forms can no longer be used after October 31, 2023.

How does this impact current employees?
This change does not impact existing employees as employers are not required to complete a new Form I-9 for current employees with a Form I-9 on file.

What are the revisions?
The new Form I-9 now features fillable fields for tablets and mobile devices. It also includes a section that allows certain employers to check a box indicating that they examined Form I-9 remotely as part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s new alternative procedure rather than via physical examination.

A complete summary of the changes and instructions can be found on the government’s site here.
