CrowdStrike Outage Impacting Businesses

Computer and software outages are currently being reported around the globe. These outages are impacting businesses, airports, hotels, and banks, to name a few. According to CNN, experts are reporting that these outages have been at least partly caused by a software update issued by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz posted on social media that the outages were caused by “a defect found in a single content update of its software on Microsoft Windows operating systems.”

Microsoft provided patches overnight to customers, allowing programs like Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook to work on computers whose Windows systems were not impacted by the CrowdStrike update.

According to a CrowdStrike advisory, this issue is specific to Falcon, a major CrowdStrike software product, and does not affect Mac or Linux operating systems. This advisory instructed customers to reboot their computers and perform additional steps if they had technical issues.

It is important to note that this is not being reported as a cyber attack or any Microsoft breach, but Eccezion will continue to monitor the news as it unfolds. If you are experiencing any issues or have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Eccezion Help Desk.
