Apple Users Should Update Now

By: Eric Vicencio

On Wednesday, June 21st, Apple released iOS 16.5.1 as part of their security response to two vulnerabilities impacting Apple devices. According to Apple’s security support document, this update contains fixes to vulnerabilities used by hackers and bad actors for system hacks.

This update includes the kernel and WebKit vulnerabilities.

A kernel is the core of the iOS code. This update addresses an issue that could allow an application to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges and, in turn, could give a third party unrestricted access to the inner workings of your phone.

A WebKit is the engine that powers Safari and other browsers on iOS. This update addresses the potential vulnerability of allowing a third party to execute code and access your data.

Eccezion suggests that you immediately run all updates on any of your iOS devices. You can easily update your Apple devices now by following these steps:

  • Click on Settings
  • Scroll down to General
  • Select Software Update
  • Your device will automatically check for updates.
  • If your device has not been automatically updated, click download and install on the available update.

If you have any questions or need help updating, please do not hesitate to contact the Eccezion Help Desk for assistance.
